I have always had a desire to create whether it was cooking, knitting, sewing, painting, woodworking, or floral designs. At the tender age of six, I drew a picture of a wild rose bush. It was drawn with crayons on the yellowish rough paper that was used in schools in the 1940’s. My Mother and Grandmother were so impressed with my ‘art’ work they kept the picture and wrote on the back:
Wild Roses
Drawn by Phyllis Jean, age 6

Today, fifty plus years later, Mother and Grandmother are home with our Lord, but the picture has been framed between two panes of glass so both sides may be viewed and is proudly displayed in my home. For me, it represents a life-long love of creating. A large part of the joy in making crafts is the pleasure of sharing the creation with others.
I have no formal training in most crafts; nearly everything has been self-taught. When my beloved daughter was planning her wedding, we took a class in bridal florals. With the eager hands of my sister and daughter-in-law, we created all her wedding flowers. Love was worked into every arrangement and they were perfect.
My passion is whimsy, the cute clever items with which we surround ourselves; perhaps a lovely floral design with a cute teddy bear angel peeking from behind a blossom; the unexpected woodland friend cut on the scroll saw, lovingly painted and hung so he hugs a door frame; or maybe the wool sock stuffed and turned into Rudy the Reindeer displayed on green print fabric holly leaves to brighten the Christmas holiday. I love all whimsical things created to encourage a smile and bring a bit of sunshine to our lives even on a cold, dark, winter day.
